12 May Mother’s Day Specials 5/12 and 5/13
I hear y’all complain about your Mothers and Mothers-in-Law all the time. Never about their generosity, free childcare, bottomless wells of love and forgiveness, or their ability to be proud of your career after wiping your butt for at least three years. Y’all complain about their old-fashioned and basic taste in wine. I regularly complain about my Mother’s taste in wine, too. Mine has an entire fridge of Tennessee sweet whites that I couldn’t choke down with a borrowed gullet, but she’s my Mom and I love her. I want better things for her. I also want to be able to drink her wine. If only there was a Mother’s Day Special with 10% off wines that would delight the Moms in our lives and us Wine Nerds . . .
Thus we present our Mother’s Day Special, MomWine Revisited: Delicious for Mom, But Fancy Enough for Your Triflin’ A**
10% off all listed prices on the wines below 5/12 and 5/13
Tintero for Kermit Lynch Bianco
Fresh and dry, low in alcohol, with just enough fizz, making it the perfect sipper for long summer evenings when you don’t want to tackle anything too cerebral. 100% Langhe Arneis, or as I like to call it, the Chardonnay of Piedmont. $14.99
Tintero for Kermit Lynch Rosato
A little fizz, wild red berries, and sweet lemon. We’ve referred to this one as the crack of porch pounders for years. Get it while you can. $13.99
Château des Annibals Rosé
Pale pink color. Aromas of peach, lemon, resinous herbs, and pungent flowers in the nose. These scents usher in a refreshing, generous, yet light palate. On the finish, peach fuzz, herbal oils, and chalk. $21.99
Marcel Lapierre Morgon
“Liquid joy” according to the importer, completely organic, ripe, easy and food friendly, yet still the preferred producer of wine nerds all over the world. This producer changed the game with his simple philosophy: “Our ideal is to make wine from 100% grape juice.” $32.99
Phipps Family Cellars Melange Blanc
White blend from Dry Creek Valley. Beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, sweet grass, and ripe melon with a beautiful honey color in the glass. $19.99
Vinedo de los Vientos ‘Estival’ White Blend IGT Atlantida
Passionfruit and pear mingle with spice in this totally wild blend from Uruguay of early-harvest Chardonnay grapes and Moscatel. Must be experienced. Cannot be explained. $17.99
Gros Ventre Vermentino
Another spectacular single-vineyard wine from a wife and husband team who looked around and said, “We can make better wine than all this,” and boy did they! The 2016 Vermentino is their first white (check our their pinots while you’re at it) and with a tiny touch of Picpoul it absolutely sings with notes of citrus leaf, lemon zest, white flowers, and Asian pear. $28.99
Giornata Fiano
A single vineyard from another longtime favorite family winemaking team, this bottlng of 100% Fiano derived benefit from Nightingale Ranch Vineyard in Paso Robles being neglected due to a vineyard manager’s divorce for a few years until 2014. Aromatics include fresh white peach with some citrus notes. On the palate there is honey, starfruit with stone fruit. Clean and stony enough to age beautifully. $24.99
Pour Me White Wine
The fraternal twin of Wine Enthusiast darling Pour Me Red and one of the children of Washington mad genius Anna Shafer of àMaurice Cellars (she’s responsible for The Artist “McCool” Red which is the single greatest Washington wine I’ve tasted). Viognier and Grenache Blanc in a two-vintage combo of 2014 and one barrel of 2015. Exotic and just a tiny bit sweet. A perfect example of Anna’s sense of adventure in blending and her uncanny palate that makes every adventure worthwhile! We hope to see a lot more wine from àMaurice. $25.99
Ameztoi Getariako Txakolina
Bottled with a little carbon to give it some fizz. Supremely refreshing and quite tart. Bright briny sea salt combined with limey fruits. Fresh and eminently quaffable, tastes like joy and springtime. $21.99
